Working with Scribendi requires a moderately advanced level of computer and Internet knowledge. You need to be extremely comfortable with downloading and uploading files, saving and finding files on your computer, file transfers, renaming files, and using a web site interface. You should have a good working knowledge of the major document file formats and their associated software programs. Software should be up to date (e.g., Microsoft Office programs must be either Office 365 or Office 2021 or later). You should also be savvy enough to know where to look to find out more about a particular file format or subject. As we also sometimes get documents that misbehave, some ability to troubleshoot technical problems is extremely helpful.
Please also beware of downloading a file and double-clicking it to open it without first checking the file extension. For example, if you download a .wps document, your computer might be set up to open these automatically with Word, and you might erroneously assume that because it opened in Word it is a Word document. If you were then to apply tracked changes and return it as a .doc file, the client would not be able to open the file, and they might subsequently issue a complaint to Customer Service.
Return What Was Sent — Always return a revised document in the same file format that the client used. If they sent in a Works (.wps) file, return the document as a Works file.
Don't Zip — Unless the client has sent a .zip file, don't send .zip files back. Most clients don't know what a .zip file is or how to open it, and they end up having to contact Customer Service for technical support.
