Written Reflection:
At the beginning of this year I thought I knew all about photography, then I took photo 1 and I learned so much about picture taking techniques and editing ideas. At the end of that I thought, what else could I possibly learn. I soon found out that I would learn a whole new set of things. I started to learn more about myself as a photographer. At the beginning of the semester I was still figuring out what I wanted to focus on so my pictures are kind of all over the place. As the semester progressed so did my concentration and my idea generating. I started being able to capture more then 1 or 2 composition rules or techniques in my photographs and most of them kind of related.
I think my dark room work shows the most progress. I improved my ability to figure out exposure time, filters and how many transparencies I should use. I am proud that I was able to become better with the darkroom because during my first project in the dark room ever I had to make almost 8 test strips and now I can guess enough to only have to do two or three. I also think my images got stronger as I started to get evenly exposed and developed images with a full range of value. For me the most challenging part of photography is choosing what to photograph and sketching out my projects.
My projects show that I follow directions, but also interpret things my own way. They also show my creativity. I did each project my very own way and I like my images uniqueness. I'm so happy I took photography this year and my love for it has only increased. I hope to do an independent study either next year or the year after.
