The subject of my photograms is Sadie and greenery. I took the four pictures I used on three different occasions. I took all of the images with my digital camera, I used photoshop to combine them, I printed them in the dark room on transparency paper and then I used the dark room tools to print it. The assignment was to use our pictures and make a create photo montage that we would eventually print in the dark room. It took me awhile to come up with an idea, but I settled on four pictures and started experimenting. Shown in the photogram is value, texture and positive and negative space. There is balance because there is a head on each side of the circle. There is unity because the circle holds most of the information inside it.

In the photogram there is formal balance because there is a head on each side, there is selective focus because the greenery behind the heads is kind of blurry. There is framing because the circle frames the heads and greenery. This picture started out as four pictures, I combined them in photoshop, I turned it black and white, I printed that one on transparency paper, I inverted it, I printed that one on transparency paper. I then started the dark room process. I used the enlarger to make test strips and then the final print. One inverted and one positive.

This image makes me think of a cartoon. When someone is using binoculars and someones head pops into the frame. This project relates to my life because I created the photo montage and then I went through the process of developing it. I think my positive could be stronger if there was more contrast and if the edges were fully developed. The inverted one could also be stronger if you could see the full head on both. To fix these problems I would have to redo my test strips and prints.
