Cyanotypes

The subject of this image is the picture I used for the digital leading line project. It is of trees next to water. To print this image I used photoshop, the printer, the contact sheet holder, the sun and cold water. In this image the trees show lines, the fabric is color, there is texture from the fabric and there is negative and positive space shown. There is a pattern from the tree trunks, contrast between the dark blues and light blues.

In this image there is informal balance because there are a bunch of trees on one side and one tree all by its self on the other. The original picture was silhouette lighting, but this version is. The trees serve as leading lines, the trunks lead up to the tree tops. The trees are grouped. The tree trunks frame the water behind them. This picture started out in color, I used photoshop to turn it black and white, I inverted it and then printed it on transparency paper, I put the printed negative on top of the fabric, put it in the contact sheet frame and put it in the sun. It sat in the sun for 12 mins and then I rinsed it with cold water for 5 mins.

I like this image because it reminds me of the weekend I took it. Even though the weather wasn't great we still had a great time. This project relates to my life because I chose which picture to use and I went through the process. I think this image could be stronger if there was more range in value or if the image was lighter in general. To change this I would have to redo the project.
