Setting up Large Format Printing Press

There are multiple ways to setup a large format press. Preference would dictate either a standard setup, where costs are represented individually as a cost centre, ink, press and material or more common option is to have the cost centre and ink price (the printing cost) represented as a fixed value per square metre.

In the latter scenario, a press is setup where the print cost is determined by a material linked to the running option. The price is setup to calculate to the nearest centimetre square. In this article we explain this type of setup.

Setup

• Cost Centre: Add a Cost Centre with no hourly rate
• Printing Type: Size From: Sections; Run Type: Web - m²/hr; Ink: Use Press Options; Paper Category: Reels with price either setup in price per metre square, running metre, ton or kg
• Material Category: Setup new category with two units: cm² as Base Unit and m² with 'Qty of Base Unit' of 10,000
• Material: Create a material with a generic supplier and List Price set to price per metre square
• Press: Setup press parameters; New run option linked to the material created in previous step. Set 'Qty Type' to Print Area (m²) and 'Unit Qty' to 10,000

When estimating, the print cost will populate under 'Other Material' and round-up to the nearest square centimetre.
