An automatic removal process for unused courses in Moodle has been introduced at the turn of the year 2024–2025.
An unused Moodle course means a course that has no visits by participants in the last two years.
Unused courses are first automatically transferred to the archive, from where they are removed from Moodle at the end of the year following the course end date. You can see the course end date on the Settings tab under Course end date.
You can identify the archived course by the Lock icon on the course card and by the course start and end dates added after the name.
Moodle takes care of archiving and removing unused courses from Moodle that have already expired and have not been used for a long time.
This helps in the statutory process of preserving and destroying students' study attainments and saves Moodle disk space.
