We are learning about the features of 'construction' types toys. and explore what materials and special devices they may use.

Success criteria:

I can explore a range of construction games and toys.

I can identify what skills I am developing by playing with this toy/game.

I can explore toys that are related to construction such as blocks, toys, duplo and models.

I can explain details of materials and features that they may have.

Hook:

Have a look at some of the videos showing some 'construction' type toys.

Generate discussion about what some of these toys have in common:

Hard Plastic
Interlocking pieces
Rotation points
Hinge points
Colourful
Clip together
Slide together

Mini Lesson:

Explore - Students can build and construct using lego, duplo, wooden blocks etc

As a warm up - Students could use the STEM lego cards eg. Make something that starts with the letter ‘B’

Independent Practise:

Teachers could have rotations where students spend 15 mins with Lego, wooden planks and materials for example: a paper plate marble run or something similar.

Reflection:

Children share their construction or model and explain the process of building and what they discovered/learned.
