In writing books - Write down your 'chosen leader' as the heading of a new page. Students will spend time writing down questions that they wish to research about their chosen leader.

Share their chosen leader and some questions they will be researching.

Look at the last page of each document. There is an example speech. Show the students and discuss how we write a speech in paragraph and list then explain their reasons for wanting a leadership position.
Independent
Students use their planner to write their speech. They can look at the example speeches but DO NOT COPY them!
Remember they need to add personality into the speech to show the audience who they are.
This group is to be working with the teacher.
Students who are not applying for a role can continue with independent writing.

Gather the group of students who are applying for leadership positions and discuss how they are going. Are they on track- remind them of the structure of a speech and that they need to add personality/ voice into the speech.
Independent
Students use their planner to write their speech. They can look at the example speeches but DO NOT COPY them!

This group is to be working with the teacher.

Explain to students that today we will be typing up our speeches and creating cue cards. Students are to leave a space in their speech where they would like to end their cue card.
Model to the students how to make cue cards.
