How to choose a good fit book.
Year 5 - Students to choose a good fit books. Choose more than we need - 3 or 4.
Year 6 - Students to choose good fit books. Choose more than we need - 3 or 4.
Independent work:
Students to read independently. Respond to 'inferencing questions' from rotations last week.
Teachers to continue with DIBELS/ MAZE assessments.
Hook:
One-page challenge:
Select a random book and choose one page to read from.
Students show a thumbs-up or down on whether they would continue reading.
Ask:
What made you want to continue reading?
What about the writing style/ character/ mood draws you in (or pushes you away)?
Ask if any students would like to read out one page of their book.
Mini Lesson:
Discuss inferences: An inference is something that you figure out without being told. You use clues and what you already know. A formula: inference = clues + what you already know. Students practise telling a partner a sentence. The partner needs to listen carefully and tell what they can infer.
