A paragraph is a group of sentences about one main idea. Each new paragraph should:
Start on a new line.
Have an indented first sentence (or a line space between paragraphs in digital writing).
Contain sentences that support the main idea.
Independent
Provide a short story (The Camping Trip) with no paragraph breaks and ask students to rewrite it, adding appropriate paragraphing. Add into Google Classroom
Word Processing Skill: Teach students how to use the "Enter" key to create new paragraphs and adjust spacing.

Commas help make writing clear. They are used:
In a list: I bought apples, bananas, oranges, and grapes.
After an introductory word: Yes, I would love some ice cream.
Before conjunctions (FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so): I wanted to go outside, but it started raining.
Show correct and incorrect examples, discussing why commas are necessary.

Provide sentences without commas and ask students to place them correctly.

Quotation marks show what someone is saying. Rules:
The speaker’s words go inside the quotation marks: She said, "I love reading."
A comma is used before the quote if it follows a dialogue tag: Mom asked, "Did you finish your homework?"
End punctuation goes inside the quotation marks: "Let's go to the park!" said Jake.
Show examples of correct and incorrect dialogue punctuation.

Give students short sentences and ask them to add quotation marks correctly.
