Mini Lesson: 

As a class, discuss the poster. Talk about how we use sizzling starters to make our writing interesting and catching to the reader. 

Independent

Choose a prompt as a class: https://www.literacyshed.com/

Can you come up with a sizzling start?

Students can use the same prompt to start their narrative OR they can choose their own narrative to write about. 

Students will independently write for 30min. 

Provide 10 minutes at the end to edit and revise.

Mini Lesson: 

Watch the video about how to use quotation marks. 

Open, dialogue, punctuation, close.

Independent

Students to edit their narratives from earlier in the week, focusing on using quotation marks correctly.

Use highlighters to show edits. 

If students have no dialogue they can edit to add it OR start writing a new Narrative.

Reflection

Students to share their edits with a partner.

Year 5: Put a NAPLAN writing prompt on the board. Explain that students are to complete a narrative based on the prompt. This will be done on Google Classroom under test conditions.

Year 6-Quotation Mark Checklist

Stick into Resources section of folder.

Independent

Year 5: Students to complete narrative independently for 30 minutes. Allow 10 minutes for editing at the end.

Year 6: Students to independently write a narrative. Students to write in third person, ensuring they use quotation marks when someone is speaking.
