A Drowned Maiden’s Hair by Laura Amy Schiltz
Review by: Geraldine H.
I recently read “A Drowned Maiden’s Hair” and it was great. There was plenty of mystery in the beginning of the book and overall it was a fun story, Laura Schiltz made Maud believable and she wrote the book in a way that seemed like it could actually happen. The time period of the book was perfect. It allowed the character to be without an adult and not be suspicious. It also allowed the antagonists of the story to more easily succeed with their plan. Though the book could get boring at times and I personally think the ending could have been better it was, overall, an excellent book.
Summary from Book:
“Maud Flynn is known at the orphanage for her impertinence, so when charming Miss Hyacinth and her sister choose Maud to take home with them, the girl is as baffled as anyone. It seems the sisters need Maud to help stage elaborate seances for bereaved, wealthy patrons. As Maud is drawn deeper into the deception, playing her role as a “secret child,” she is torn between her need to place and her growing conscience-until a shocking betrayal makes clear just how heartless her so-called guardians are. Filled with tantalizing detail of turn-of-the-century spiritualism and page-turning suspense, this lively historical novel features a winning heroine whom readers will not soon forget.”
