Gorillas at the Atlanta Zoo tested positive for COVID-19 Monday. After showing signs of respiratory issues such as runny nose, cough, etc. The four groups of gorillas including 20 individuals have all shown signs of COVID-19, 18 of which have tested positive. They are all being treated with monoclonal antibodies and Zoo Atlanta says soon the will have a vaccine specifically designed for their primates. Zoo Atlanta says they “suspect the gorillas have contracted the virus from an employee”. -ABC news
The zoo says they will provide additional care if necessary but the gorillas are under close observation. In California two gorillas have also tested positive for COVID-19. Zoo keepers wear facial masks whilst caring for the primates but apparently they need to add a bit more protection from the virus.
