Experts say vaccines are non-negotiable if we are to return to normal life, but what about vaccines for kids? If we want to feel safe returning to school and doing extracurricular activities, we should be vaccinated too. Unfortunately, we don't know the side effects or potential harm Covid vaccines would cause to children under 18, so they could not be distributed as soon as adult doses (the dosage is likely different for kids). Thankfully, efforts are already underway to test vaccines on teens and children, with companies like Moderna and Pfizer having already begun testing their vaccines for these age groups. In fact, Pfizer anticipates that it will have a good vaccine for teens ages 12 and above by next school year.
Good news for younger children too, Moderna has recently started testing the side effects of their vaccine on children ages 6 months to 11 years. The vaccines are likely to be as safe for kids as they are for adults according to health experts. You might even be able to get vaccinated by September if all goes to plan! Isn't that something to look forward to?
