The Competitiveness of Minecraft

Minecraft is a game that has been around for over a decade now. It has built friendships and destroyed them over the years. Over 200 million people have downloaded Minecraft accounts over many different consoles. It is now the most downloaded video-game. It is most played on the PC and Mac (Java Edition), but can also be played on the Xbox One and Xbox 360, the Playstation 3 and 4, a mobile device (Pocket Edition), the Nintendo Switch, and the Wii U. The fact that it is on so many platforms can show how popular it is. It has created memories for many players. The music for the game is one of the best video-game soundtracks created.
In 2012-2013, many Minecraft youtubers came out of nowhere. They were in the spotlight mostly until about 2 years ago when Fortnite came out. Then, their Minecraft videos diminished in views. Fortnite took over the internet and Minecraft slowly faded away. However in 2019, Minecraft was brought back by a new generation of youtubers that supposedly knew more mechanics and were objectively better at the game. The older youtubers that just played the game to have fun and were not necessarily good or bad were ignored by most of the Minecraft community as people wanted youtubers that were the best rather than the old ones that entertained them and inspired them to actually have fun in the game.
Nowadays people rush through and ignore the beauty of Minecraft and do not really seem to genuinely enjoy the game like they used to. Nowadays, people only play the game to prove to be the best. You can tell because the players on big Minecraft servers like Hypixel have started to get better at the minigames drastically. People are also speedrunning the game a lot and not taking the time to actually enjoy the game.
The atmosphere of the game with the current majority of the players feels rushed, and the things that used to make the game what it is now are gone. Of course it is still a great game. It just doesn’t feel like the way it used to be. Now I am a fan of competition too much, but not when it infringes on having fun. Competitiveness hasn’t gone too far yet, but I fear that it might make the game unenjoyable, and that would ultimately lead to its demise. But that’s just an assumption.
