Chapter 2
Daiki yawned slowly, turning over in his bed, blinking his eyes. It was still a little dark, but that’s always how the Malfoy’s did things. Early was on time. On time was Late. And late was when the whole affair was over. It was the Malfoy way. However, the Malfoy way was not what Daiki had on his mind.
The first day of Hogwarts, he thought. He lifted his head down, and with blood rushing to his head, he saw his older brother by a year, Draco, still sleeping. It looked comfy down there but it was Daiki’s turn to wake him up. He’d been doing this since Draco got into Hogwarts.
“Dragon,” Daiki whispered. His hands clenched the bar and he started to sweat. This was getting hard. “Dragon!”
Draco rolled over, groaned, opened his eyes, and looked up. It was obvious he was having a good dream as there was a little glaze over his eyes.
“What?” He asked in a grumpy tone. Draco winced when he saw the hurt look on his brother’s face. He sighed and rephrased. “I mean, what’s up little mouse?”
“Is Hogwarts…is it nice?” Daiki asked. This would be his first year at the school and as an introvert with barely any friends, only one that was 2 years above him, he was nervous. And Malfoy should never be nervous. By history, at least. He started to climb down the ladder to Draco’s lower bunk and Draco didn’t stop him. He sat on the edge of Draco’s bed, looking down and feeling the soft fabric. “By that, I mean…will it be..okay? You know, no bullies like Nqueoes?”
Draco sighed, shuddering at the thought of that horrid school. He opened his arms while Daiki crawled in them with little to no regret. Draco gently rubbed his shoulder and spoke.
“I’m going to be truthful with you. Hogwarts is a horror of a place for someone like you.” Draco said. There was so much honesty and regret in his eyes it almost seemed like this was impossible to be Draco Malfoy. But Daiki knew better. Draco sighed, and seemed to pull Daiki closer, as if he never wanted to let him go. “An introvert like you wouldn’t survive a day. But, I’m your brother. I got you covered.”
“You do?” Daiki half-smiled and snuggled closer. He laid his head on top of Draco’s heart that was beating calmly. It was a soothing sound. “Thanks.”
They heard the door creek and Lucius was standing there, thoughtful and quiet. He was leaning against the door, smiling at his sons. The look of pride showed through his face.
“Kids,” He said when he realized he’d been caught staring at them. “It’s time for breakfast.”
“Alright father, we’re coming. Give me a minute.” Draco said. He knew Daiki still had the jitters he had on his first day and he was going to need more of a longer pep talk.
“I will.” Lucius was about to turn, to leave, but he looked back at his sons, Draco whispering soft murmurs in Daiki’s ear. “Oh, and Draco?”
“Yes father?” Draco asked. He looked up. Lucius was thoughtful; serious. Draco had seen him that way only two times; When Daiki had to go up to court and when Draco beat a man half to death for a terrible cause.
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”
