Sometimes I sit and wonder about things I do not know. Like what the most popular video games in 2020 were. The year just ended. It wasn’t as bad as people thought it was. I don’t know why people blame 2020 when 2019 is clearly the year when the virus hit. It’s just that we are blaming 2020 because that is when the virus started to affect us, and not just China. But anyways, a clear game to be on the list is “Among Us”. According to “wikipedia.org”, the game has 100 million downloads and 1.5 million concurrent players, which is insane growth in a month.
Another game that is popular is, of course, Minecraft. Minecraft used to be insanely popular in 2011-2014 but started to decline, and almost died out in 2018. However, it started to grow in 2019 and now it is almost as popular as it was back then. According to “Wikipedia”, the game has over 600 million downloads and over 100 million active online players. Minecraft seems like it will never die down at this point.
Fall Guys was a game that was popular. It amassed 150,000 concurrent players according to Steam within a week of its release and many big YouTubers such as SSundee, JeromeASF, Socksfor1, and DanTDM played it. However, its popularity died quickly. It now only has 13,000 concurrent players. Most people think it does because it does not have that good of replayability. It gets boring after a while.
The final game that I will talk about is Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It is Nintendo’s newest Animal Crossing game for the Nintendo Switch. Animal Crossing sold 31 million sales according to arstechnica.com which is a record for the series. Nintendo put a lot of effort into the game and cleaned up some mechanics. They introduced farming which is really profitable. Turnips are especially profitable if you do not cheat and time travel.
These are not all of the most popular games, but they are some of them.
