Me: “What do you think about students heading back to school?”
Data 1: “With the increasing rise in COVID-19 cases, I think it’s premature to allow students, school staff, and teachers to return to school at this time. It’s too risky. The threat is there for additional sickness and death.
Me: “Do you think kids will go back to school by choice?
Data 1: “Some kids will go back by choice but the majority will return based on the parents or family’s decision. Some parents feel their students should return to in-school instruction even though the numbers are rising. Other parents are more cautious and will keep their students in virtual instruction.”
Me: “Would you send your kids back to school?”
Data 1: “No, I would not send my kids back to school at his time. The impact of the virus is too high. The potential is there to contract the virus from someone in the school building, bring it home, and pass it on to other family members. Like other families, we have had deaths and sickness of close family members as a result of this virus.”
Me: “Which do you prefer, in school or virtual?”
Data 1: “I prefer in-person school because it is the best environment for students to learn. Students are free to interact with their teachers and peers. This is the normal earning process. However, virtual is the only option for me because of the pandemic. Safety is the most important factor at this time in order to keep my student and family safe.”
Me: “If the numbers went down would your answer for questions three and four be different? Why or why not?”
Data 1: “No, my answer would remain the same. Everyone should be vaccinated before returning to in-school instruction. The potential is still there for the continuous spread and high-level negative impact of the virus.”
Me: “If you did send your child back to in-school, would you allow them to attend any after school activities?”
Data 1: Once I believe it is safe to return to school, Yes, of course. Until then, the risk is too wide for infection because students may or may not wear face masks at all times and it’s impossible to social distance while performing sports other after school activities.
Me: “What do you think about students heading back to school?”
Data 2: It is fine as long as the numbers are low enough to meet the safety requirements.
Me: “Do you think kids will go back to school by choice?
Data 2: No. I believe their parents will force them to return.
Me: “Would you send your kids back to school?”
Data 2: No. I believe it is not properly safe at this moment.
Me: “Which do you prefer, in school or virtual?”
Data 2: Virtual. My children seem to excel better in virtual.
Me: “If the numbers went down would your answer for questions three and four be different? Why or why not?”
Data 2: Yes and No. Number three yes because it would be safer for them to return. Number 4 no because they seemed to be doing better with virtual at least through this year.
Me: “If you did send your child back to in-school, would you allow them to attend any after-school activities?”
Data 2: No, because after school activities aren’t controlled by the school. Therefore the mask requirement may not be in effect for safety.
