04. The Resistance

Recap

Use this link to watch a BBC Bitesize video about how circuits work and how you measure current and voltage.

Happy with progress so far?

If you are happy with how current and potential difference (voltage) are measured in circuits then sit at the table indicated and work through the series of problems on what happens to current and potential difference in series and parallel circuits.

Here is a completed worksheet, looking at the answers that are provided, can you draw conclusions from the answers that are provided?

Completed worksheet

1. Calculating Current and Voltage in Circuits

2. Calculating Resistance in Circuits

If once you get started you are not as confident as you thought, that's fine, go to the other tables and try measuring things again until you are confident enough to move back.

Just need to check a couple of things?

If you think you need a recap on how to measure current and potential difference in series and parallel circuits then sit at the tables with the circuit kits and work through the problem sheets to help you master your understanding.

For each activity you should make a clear record of the circuit diagram and the readings on the ammeter/voltmeter in your exercise book.

1. Series Circuits - Current

2. Parallel Circuits - Current

3. Parallel Circuits - Voltage

If, after a while you think you have it, move over to the other tables and try the other problems.
