04. Reflector
What is the relationship between the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection on a plane mirror?
Activity - make a copy of these details selecting the correct words from the list or filling in the blancs as appropriate. You will need to hand draw the graph on graph paper.
Prediction
I think the angle of reflection will be (smaller than/greater than/the same as) the angle of incidence.
Method
APPARATUS
• laser pointer • plane mirror
• pencil • ruler
• protractor sheet
Fill in the gaps in these sentences, using words from the box below.
I will find out what the relationship is between the angle of incidence and the angle of _________________________________.
I will do this by shining a ray of _________________________________ onto the mirror. I will then measure the angles on
each side of the _________________________________ line. I will repeat the experiment by changing the size of the angle
of _________________________________ and measuring the size of the angle of reflection.
KEY WORDS
incidence light normal reflection
Recording your results
Draw a line graph to show your results. Draw a line of best fit so that any errors are not included on the line. You will need to draw axes like this.
Considering your results/conclusion
I noticed that the angle of incidence is (larger than/equal to/smaller than) the angle of reflection
Can you...
> make accurate measurements of angles
> record your results
> draw a conclusion from your results
