01. Is it safe?

Outcomes:

    • Identify some Safety Equipment in the Science Lab.

  • Explain why some Safety Equipment is used in the Science Lab.

    • Identify some Hazards in the Science Lab.

Explore: Many things can be dangerous in the science laboratories, to keep us safe we have Safety Equipment. In a small group, walk around the science laboratory, get to know where things are by looking, but don't touch!

Activity - In your group label on the diagram of the laboratory where each of the identified pieces of Safety Equipment are.

Activity - Collect the Safety Equipment flip-flap sheet, follow the instructions to cut it out and stick the left edge into your new science book. Under each flap you should write an explanation of why we use each piece of safety equipment.

There is part completed version in the example book if you are stuck!

Extension

Collect the Safety Hazards sheet. From the front diagram, identify as many hazards as you can and circle them. List the hazards you identified on the T-table and explain how you could correct each situation in the right hand column.
