07. Acids all around

Your group task is to find out about the ways that acids are important in our lives.

Here are some suggestions for the sort of information to collect:

    • labels or adverts that show the acids that are used in foods

    • examples of products that you use in the home that contain acids

    • library or internet search on ways in which acids are used to make important products like paints, fertilisers and medicines

    • explain how acid pollution can occur and what problems it creates.

Planning

    1. In your group, decide whether you are going to work on all the ideas, or just pick one or two. Write down what you decide.

    2. In your group, decide how you are going to present the information. Some ideas include making a poster, producing a leaflet or giving a presentation. Write down what you decide.

    3. What will each member of your group do?

    4. Where will you look for information?

    5. How will you tell each other how well you are getting on?

    6. How can you help other people in your group with their jobs?

    7. How will you check the progress of your task? What is the deadline?

    8. Who can you get help and advice from?
