Outcomes:

    • State with examples that half-life is the time taken for the number of something to halve.

    • Explain that when a very large number of radioactive atoms decay, there is a simple pattern, despite the random nature of each decay

    • Determine the half-life from a graph of activity against time

    • Plot a graph of activity against time and use it to determine the half-life

    • Recall that elements have a wide range of half-life values and relate this to their uses

    • Calculate the half-life of an isotope from data of activity and time

  • Calculate the percentage or fraction of isotope left after a number of half-lives
