00. Recap bonding
Lesson Outcomes:- To recap the differences between elements, compounds and mixtures.- To review the differences between ionic, covalent and metallic bonding by looking at specific examples and explaining their properties.
Activity: Use the M&Ms provided to make models that represent the arrangement of atoms in an element, a compound and a mixture. For each one you need to be able to justify and explain your model.

Activity: In groups of 3 you must revise, research and explain the type of bonding and the general properties of the following three substances:
Magnesium, Mg
Sodium oxide, Na2O
Carbon dioxide, CO2
For each summary:
Name the type of bonding present,
Show the structure (bonding) of the substance,
State the general properties of the substance;
Appearance,
Melting point,
Hardness,
Electrical conductivity (when solid),
Solubility in water,
Electrical conductivity (when dissolved).
Explain how the type of bonding causes the properties.
