Grace George, a 2018 DeWitt graduate, earned seven varsity letters in volleyball, basketball and track. In volleyball, George earned All-League, All-Area and All-State honors as DeWitt won three consecutive league championships and compiled a 136-11-1 record during her three seasons on varsity. In 2017, she was a Lansing State Journal (LSJ) Player of the Year finalist after leading the Panthers to a berth in the Class A state semi-finals. She finished her career with 1,055 kills. In her three seasons of varsity basketball, she helped lead the Panthers to a 61-7 record and three straight league championships. The two-time LSJ “Dream Team” member earned All-League, All-Area, All-State and Academic All-State honors during both her junior and senior seasons. In 2018, she was named DeWitt’s Female Athlete of the Year before accepting a full-ride scholarship to play basketball at Wayne State University. George earned her way into the starting lineup as a freshman, but injuries limited her time. After an impressive sophomore season averaging 11.4 points and 9.0 rebounds, she started her junior year averaging an amazing 22.3 points per game while shooting 54% from the floor, but her season ended with another knee injury. George returned five games into her senior year, averaging 13.3 points per game on her way to earning First Team All-GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) honors. She still holds a Wayne State record for most points scored in a quarter (18) during a game her senior year against Ferris State University where she also recorded a career-high 34 points. Over her career as a Warrior, she scored in double figures 46 times. She was also a three-time GLIAC All-Academic Excellence honoree.
