Dave Wilson

Dave Wilson, a 1978 DeWitt graduate, exhibited athletic prowess and leadership as a three-sport standout.  As a three-year captain, Wilson led the cross country program to three league championships, including a 20-0 dual meet record, three regional championships, and three top five state championship finishes capped by a Class C State Championship in his senior season.  He broke all four cross country school records, while earning All-League, All-State, and team MVP all three years.  In his senior year, he finished first in both the regional and state meets.  Although Wilson's greatest achievements came in cross country, he also excelled in basketball and track.  In three varsity basketball seasons, he earned the conference scoring title, team MVP, All-League, and All-Area honors.  In track, Wilson helped his teams earn a Central Michigan Athletic Conference Championship his sophomore year, place fourth in the region his junior year, and win a regional championship with a fifth place finish at the state meet his senior year.  During that season, Wilson set three school records in the mile relay, 880 yard run, and the mile run.  Wilson earned DeWitt’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1978.  Academically, Wilson became the first DeWitt High School graduate to earn an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point.  Wilson’s appointment and contributions as a professor of German at West Point opened the door for future DeWitt graduates to earn appointments.  In 1982, Wilson graduated with an engineering degree and was recognized as the top cadet in physical education.  Following graduation, Wilson was appointed to a number of posts in his military career before retiring in 2004 as a Major.
