Kay Carroll

Kay Carroll, a 1977 DeWitt graduate, was a three-sport letter winner in basketball, volleyball and softball. In basketball, Carroll was a dominating force, scoring a career-high 36 points in the district finals as a senior, which was a school record at the time. It was her fifth 30-plus scoring performance of her career. The Panthers captured the Capital Circuit league title that year and finished 19-2, losing in the Class C regional final. As a four-year varsity player in volleyball, Carroll experienced tremendous success being named All-League and the team’s Most Valuable Player during her junior and senior seasons. She was a standout in softball for four varsity seasons and helped lead the Panthers to the Class C State Championship as a senior. She earned All-League, All-Area and was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior. She was named DeWitt’s Female Athlete of the Year in 1977. Carroll moved on to play basketball and softball at Lansing Community College. She led the Stars to a 38-8 record during her basketball career and was chosen as the team’s Most Valuable Player both seasons. She was named an NJCAA All-American and held 13 school records when she finished playing for the Stars. Her hard work, unselfish play, and tireless work ethic earned her a scholarship to play basketball for two more seasons at Indiana University where she was named captain as a senior in 1981. Carroll was inducted into the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1989, making her the only female athlete from DeWitt to hold that honor.
