Beth Michael

Beth Michael, a 1989 DeWitt graduate, is the most celebrated individual female swimmer in school history. Through hard work and dedication, she balanced academic excellence with athletic success throughout high school and college. Attention to detail and technique led Michael to excel in the water. Year-round training, which included early morning workouts and training with the boys team, earned her All-Area recognition all four years of high school. She was named All-Central Michigan Swim League ten times, earned Class B All-State eight times, and was selected as the Michigan Swimmer of the Year in 1989. That same year, Michael was a high school All-American in the 100 breaststroke and was also named a high school Academic All-American. When she graduated, she held the state record in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. At the time of her induction into the Hall of Fame, both of these remain DeWitt High School records. Michael was chosen as DeWitt's Female Athlete of the Year in 1989. She earned a scholarship to swim at prestigious Northwestern University where she earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three times. These accomplishments came as the result of endless hours of work in both the pool and the classroom.
