Chad Daggy

Chad Daggy, a 1989 DeWitt graduate, was a three-sport letter winner in football, wrestling and track. An internal drive, passion for sports, and thirst for competition propelled him to one of the most successful high school athletic careers in DeWitt’s history. In addition to 11 All-League selections, he was All-State in all three sports, earning a total of nine honors with four each in wrestling and track. Daggy was a two-time state champion in wrestling at 155 pounds as a sophomore and junior, and he finished runner-up as a senior in the newly-created 171 pound weight class, finishing his wrestling career with 174 wins, which was a school record until 2000. On the track, he set three school records in the 110 meter hurdles, the 300 meter hurdles, and the 1600 meter relay. In state competition, he finished in seventh place in the 300 meter low hurdles as both a sophomore and junior and finished in fifth place as a senior in the same event. During his senior season, Daggy rushed for over 1,200 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. His team finished with an 11-1 record in 1988, and the Panthers won the school's first football playoff game en route to the Class C state semifinal. That year he earned All-State as a running back, was named the Greater Lansing Offensive Player of the Year, and was selected captain of the All-Area Team. At the time of his graduation, he held 13 individual school records in football. Daggy was named DeWitt’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1989. He earned a scholarship to wrestle at Michigan State University where he would also walk on to play football.
