Frank Deak

Frank Deak, who served DeWitt Public Schools in both academics and athletics for more than 30 years, built DeWitt baseball into a championship program going 567-158 with a winning percentage of .782 over 22 years at the helm. Prior to DeWitt, he had a two-year coaching stint in Terre Haute, Indiana and spent a year at Portland St. Patrick. His career winning percentage was .784 as he compiled an overall record of 621-171. As head coach from 1968-1969 and 1980-1999, Deak won 16 League Championships, 13 District Championships, five Regional Championships, had four Final Four appearances, and finished State Runner-up twice. His teams were fundamentally sound and disciplined, which earned the baseball program respect and recognition throughout the state. Perhaps his greatest coaching accomplishments came when he guided his teams to the 1983 Class C State Championship and the 1993 Class B State Championship. During the 1993 season, DeWitt posted a school record 33-game winning streak and finished with a school record in wins at 38-3, which earned Deak runner-up for National Coach of the Year. He was also elected to the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame that same year. After retiring as DeWitt's head coach, he went on to establish the baseball program at Lansing Community College where he would remain for five years.
