Devin McNeil, a 2002 DeWitt graduate, earned seven varsity letters in soccer and tennis. In tennis, he won three regional championships in doubles. He and his doubles partner, Brad Holda, took home Ingham County League (ICL) and Regional Championships before their magical run to a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 First Doubles State Runner-Up finish, the first pair to advance to a state final match in school history. They compiled a 27-4 overall record earning All-League, Lansing State Journal (LSJ) “Dream Team,” and All-State recognition. As a team that season, DeWitt won the ICL and Regional Championship, finishing with an 8th place ranking in the state. McNeil is arguably the greatest all-around player in the soccer program’s storied past. The midfielder was a two-time team captain and completed his four-year varsity stint with an impressive 75-15-4 record, guiding the Panthers to three League Championships, two District Championships, and two Regional Championships. As a senior, he led the team to a school-best 24-3-1 record and the program’s only state semi-final appearance, falling in a shootout to the eventual 2001 Division 2 State Champion. McNeil’s 25 goals and 21 assists not only earned him a second consecutive spot on the LSJ “Dream Team” but he was also tabbed as the LSJ “Player of the Year.” The three-time All-State honoree scored a school-record 69 career goals, securing a spot on the LSJ “All-Decade” Boys Soccer Team. In 2002, he was named DeWitt’s Male Athlete of the Year. McNeil moved on to a stellar soccer career at Hope College, compiling a 44-6-2 league record and winning three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. He helped the Dutchmen earn a NCAA Division III tournament qualifier in 2002, 2003, and 2005, finishing his career earning four varsity letters and amassing a 63-18-5 overall record. McNeil garnered three All-MIAA and All-Region honors, and as a senior, he received All-American recognition.
