Coming off the excitement of a state semi-final run in 2010, Coach Jamal Mubarakeh challenged his returners with a competitive schedule that he hoped would prepare them for another deep tournament run. While they may have lost some tough contests early on, the Panthers brought home an undefeated CAAC-Gold league title and steadily improved as the season rolled on. DeWitt put up big numbers offensively, led by the area’s top two scorers in juniors Erica Goodenough (37 goals and 16 assists) and Addison Schaar (34 goals and 30 assists). The defense was also stellar, allowing only 0.76 goals per game. That domination was on display in the state district tournament when the Panthers outscored Corunna, Haslett and Owosso by a combined score of 23-0. Once again, DeWitt cruised through the regional semi-final, taking down Mount Pleasant 3-0. The Panthers beat Spring Lake 5-1 in the next round, as DeWitt captured the program’s second consecutive Division II Regional Championship and earned a second straight trip to the Final Four. Unfortunately, once again the girls’ hopes for a state title ended in the state semi-finals, this time with a heart-breaking 3-2 loss to undefeated and eventual state champion Plainwell in double overtime. The team finished with an 18-7 record and numerous post-season individual honors.
