Cindy White

Cindy White, a 1978 DeWitt graduate and Female Athlete of the Year, was a three-sport standout for the Panthers, earning a total of ten varsity letters in basketball, volleyball, and softball. During her three varsity basketball seasons, DeWitt won two Capital Circuit titles. Her scoring and rebounding helped guide the Panthers to a 44-4 record during her junior and senior seasons. As a senior, White led the team with 14.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, earning First Team All-League, All-Area, and All-State honors as DeWitt won the 1977 Class C State Championship. As a three-year varsity volleyball player, she led the Panthers to a Regional Championship her junior year and received All-League honors as both a junior and a senior. As a four-year varsity letter-winner in softball, White's dominating pitching and powerful hitting led to consecutive Capital Circuit titles. As a junior, she finished 16-4 with a 1.51 ERA and 118 strikeouts. At the plate, she hit .479 with five home runs and 48 RBI. In the state semi-final, she threw a four-hitter and hit a home run. She followed that performance with another four-hitter in the final as DeWitt captured the 1977 Class C State Championship. At the plate, she went four-for-four with two singles, a double, a triple, and five RBI. That single-championship game performance still stands as a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) record 33 years later. As a senior, White had 176 strikeouts in 131 innings and a 19-2 record. She had nine home runs and 44 RBI with a .474 batting average. White was voted First Team All-League and All-Area.
