Sheila Milner

Sheila Milner, a 1985 DeWitt graduate, was a two-sport athlete for the Panthers, earning four varsity letters in both basketball and softball. On the hardwood, Milner was known for her ability to rebound the basketball. She was selected All-League four consecutive years, All-Area “Dream Team” as a senior, and All-State her junior and senior seasons. She set a school record for free-throws made in a game with 17 and for free-throws attempted in a game with 24, both of which have remained since that 1984 season. She currently holds the school record for career rebounds at 885 and is third in career points at 1,019. Milner’s greatest success was on the softball diamond. In addition to being a three-time All-State recipient, she also earned All-League all four years and was selected All-Area as a junior and senior. During those two seasons as a pitcher, she won 39 games while striking out 293 batters in 250 innings. As a junior, she posted a 17-1 record with a 0.76 ERA. Milner also played shortstop, batting .471 as a junior and .403 as a senior, a season in which she never struck out and never committed an error. She earned DeWitt’s Female Athlete of the Year award in 1985 before receiving a scholarship to play softball at the University of Toledo. As a senior, she helped lead the Rockets to a MAC Championship and a berth in the Women’s College World Series. Milner currently remains second all-time at Toledo with a 1.25 career ERA and third all-time for career winning percentage at .635.
