Brandon Way

Brandon Way, a 1995 DeWitt graduate, earned eight varsity letters in football, wrestling, track and field, and baseball. He was a member of DeWitt’s Class B State Champion baseball team in 1993. Football became the sport in which Brandon most left his mark. A three-year varsity player, he contributed to an Ingham County League title when he was moved up to the varsity team as a sophomore. As a senior in 1994, he helped lead the Panthers to an undefeated regular season that included another league championship. His teammates respected his strong work ethic and humble attitude, and his accomplishments earned during his senior year were impressive. The All-League running back and defensive back was named Co-Player of the Year in the Ingham County League and picked as a member of the Lansing State Journal “Dream Team.” He was selected to play in the Greater Lansing Area All-Star Football Game in 1995. Brandon’s success on the gridiron, as well as in the classroom, led to his selection as a Detroit Free Press Top Scholar Athlete honoree in 1995. He built upon his high school accolades as a standout on the football field at the University of Chicago. With the Maroons, Way set the program’s career record for rushing touchdowns in 1998 with 33. He still ranks second in career rushing touchdowns, third in career rushing yards (3,253), and fifth in all-purpose yards. The two-time team captain helped lead the Maroons to the school's first University Athletic Association (UAA) conference title in 1998, while earning the UAA Offensive Player of the Year Award twice. He was named to the UAA Silver Anniversary Team in 2012 and inducted into the University of Chicago Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
