D.J. Reyburn

D.J. Reyburn, a 1995 DeWitt graduate, earned six varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball.  His leadership helped the Panthers to four League Championships, three District Championships, two Regional Championships and the school’s first-ever basketball appearance in the Class B Final Four.  He finished his senior year with a combined 70-6 record in those three sports before being named DeWitt’s Male Athlete of the Year.  Reyburn earned All-League and All-Area honors as a senior quarterback, leading DeWitt to an Ingham County League (ICL) Championship and a perfect 9-0 regular season before a tough first-round loss in the state playoffs.  The Panthers won the Class B District Championship in basketball his junior year.  As the team’s captain and sixth man during his senior season, Reyburn helped guide DeWitt to its most successful season, capturing an ICL Championship and finishing the regular season undefeated.  The Panthers won Class B district and regional crowns before losing in semi-final action, finishing its season with a 26-1 record.  The Panthers won ICL titles in baseball during his junior and senior seasons, and as a senior outfielder Reyburn helped lead the team to a 35-4 record while claiming district and regional crowns.  He moved on to play two years of football and four years of baseball at Hope College.  Starting all but four games after his freshman year in centerfield, he was part of three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships.  During his junior year, Hope earned a berth in the school’s first-ever NCAA Division III Regional.  Reyburn was hired as a Minor League Baseball umpire in 2000, made his Major League Baseball umpiring debut in 2008, and was appointed to the Major League Baseball Umpire staff in 2014.
