Liz Nagel

Liz Nagel, a 2009 DeWitt graduate, is arguably the best golfer in school history.  She became the youngest player to qualify for the Michigan Women’s Amateur Match Play at age 13.  Nagel was named team Most Valuable Player, All-League, All-Area, and All-State all four years of high school.  She was a member of the State Super Team her last three years, while taking home individual state titles as a sophomore and a junior.  Nagel lost in a playoff her senior season, finishing second in the state, while the Panthers took third as a team.  She led DeWitt to the 2007 Division 2 State Championship and was named Michigan’s Miss Golf twice.  She holds DeWitt school records for career-best rounds of 31 for nine holes and 67 for 18 holes.  She was a member of the LSJ “All-Decade Team” in girls golf in 2009.  The Lansing State Journal four-time Player of the Year accepted a full-ride scholarship at Michigan State University.  At MSU, the two-time All-Big Ten selection and three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree averaged 74.43 as a senior, the eighth-lowest single-season scoring average in school history.  She won the Mary Fossum Invitational, and her first-round 68 was a career-low tying for the second-lowest single round in Spartan history.  Nagel finished ninth in the Big Ten individually, while MSU won the conference for the third time in four years.  Her 75.65 collegiate career average ranks her fourth all-time for Spartan female golfers.  She also received the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Kim Moore Spirit Award for persevering through thyroid cancer.  She took Top Amateur honors at the 2012 Michigan PGA Women’s Open and finished as the Stroke-Play Medalist at the Michigan Amateur Championships in both 2012 and 2013.  She was named the Golf Association of Michigan Player of the Year in 2012.  At the time of her induction, Nagel had begun pursuing her goal of qualifying as a player on the LPGA tour.
