Mary Mauro

Mary Mauro, a 1998 DeWitt graduate, was arguably the best pitcher in DeWitt’s history, dominating for four seasons on the softball diamond and leading her teams to three League Championships, three District Championships, and one Regional Championship.  She was a four-time All-League honoree and a four-time Lansing State Journal “Dream Team” member, including the “Pitcher of the Year” as a senior.  A three-time All-State selection, Mauro holds the school record for wins (114), strike outs (1,136), ERA (0.71), shut outs (53), perfect games (4), and no hitters (13).  Her opponents’ cumulative batting average was an astounding .154 over the course of her four seasons.  Offensively, she had a career batting average of .379 with 104 RBI.  As a senior, Mauro led DeWitt to the Class B state semi-finals.  Her teams won back-to-back Softball Classic Championships in 1997 and 1998, with Mauro named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player both years.  In 2011, she was chosen as a member of the Softball Classic All-Time All-Tournament Team by the LSJ.  As a senior, she was named the WLNS TV-6 “Female Athlete of the Year” for mid-Michigan.  Mauro accepted a scholarship to play at St. Joseph’s College in Indiana before transferring to Lansing Community College where she earned All-American status as a pitcher, helping to lead the Stars to the NJCAA National Championship in 2002.  Mauro was also named Region 12 First Team, finishing that season with a 13-1 record and a 1.41 ERA.  From LCC, she earned a scholarship to play at Cornerstone University, where her teams won back-to-back Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament Championships in 2003 and 2004.  She was the Cornerstone Pitcher of the Year both seasons and the WHAC Pitcher of the Year as a senior leading the Golden Eagles to the Region VIII Championship in 2004.
