2015 Boys Golf

DeWitt captured its third Division II State Championship in six years in storybook fashion at Forest Akers East in East Lansing with two incredible shots on the final hole to lift the Panthers over Cranbrook-Kingswood by one stroke with a team score of 594. The boys captured the Capital Area Activities Conference Red Division title during regular season play before finishing second in the district behind another top ten team and local rival, East Lansing. The Panthers took home their sixth straight regional title, dominating the competition by 16 strokes. On the first day of the state finals, DeWitt shot a team score of 290 and led the field by five strokes thanks to a first-round low score of 67 by senior Owen Beyer. On day two, DeWitt clinched the title with freshman Joey Croley’s clutch putt on the 16th hole and senior Geoffry Croley’s incredible shot for birdie from the green side bunker that one-hopped into the cup on the 18th hole. Beyer took third individually with a score of 142 while Geoffry Croley tied for sixth with a score of 145. The Panthers brought home additional awards, including both Beyer and Croley being named to the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association All-State Team for Division II and the Lansing State Journal (LSJ) “Dream Team.” Beyer was named the LSJ Golfer of the Year, and Coach Dave Koenigsknecht was picked as Coach of the Year. Mike Coscarelli and Joey Croley garnered LSJ All-Area recognition, and Ian Helm was named Honorable Mention. The 2015 Boys Golf State Champions included the following members: Owen Beyer, Mike Coscarelli, Geoffry Croley, Joey Croley, Alec Daman, Josh Goerge, Ian Helm, Carter McCullen, Nick Miehlke, Chris Shanley, Mitchell Thomas and Head Coach Dave Koenigsknecht.
