Dr. David Michael

Dr. David Michael, an orthopedic surgeon, volunteered in the athletic department at DeWitt for 25 years.  In 1983 he became a mainstay on the sidelines for Thursday night freshman and junior varsity home football games and both home and away varsity football games.  He also made himself available in the training room multiple days a week and brought a highly valued orthopedic perspective when evaluating injuries.  In addition, he donated his time providing sports physicals for middle school and high school student-athletes.  Before competing in contests, the Michigan High School Athletic Association requires each student-athlete to be examined for a sports physical.  By providing this service, Dr. Michael saved families both time and money.  This has become a tradition at DeWitt where doctors volunteer their time every spring and fall performing sports physicals for over 250 student-athletes.  Dr. Michael retired from medicine and volunteering on DeWitt’s football sidelines in 2008.
