Mike Keevan

During his 27-year tenure as boys and girls swimming and diving coach, Mike Keevan built a program that would bring state and national recognition to DeWitt High School. Starting in 1976, he instilled dedication and work ethic in his swimmers with early morning workouts and summer training. This year-round commitment to excellence brought with it an enormous amount of accolades for Keevan and his teams. Among his 296 coaching wins, his teams made 54 state meet appearances, crowned 13 individual state champions, produced 69 All-State honorees and seven high school All-Americans, and finished in the top 10 in the state 12 straight years. He motivated his teams to stretch their physical and mental limits. Many of his tactics included personal recognition around school for his swimmers or positive reinforcement during practice. He was named Michigan Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association Coach of the Year four times, serving as the organization’s president from 1991-1994. He helped create the largest swimming coaches clinic in the nation and was recognized by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association with the Outstanding Service and Contribution Award in 2007. He was inducted into the Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008. Mike Keevan retired from DeWitt High School in 2009 after 33 years of service.
