Jason Kreider

Jason Kreider, a 1996 DeWitt graduate, was a three-sport letter winner in soccer, basketball and tennis. He is DeWitt’s all-time leading scorer in boys basketball with 1,181 career points. He also holds school records for 3-point field goals made in a single game with eight and most career 3-point field goals made with 168. During his three varsity seasons, DeWitt won two Ingham County League Championships and three District Championships. His outside shooting, leadership, and flawless decision-making guided the Panthers to a 51-3 record and consecutive Class B Final Fours in 1994-1995 and 1995-1996. Kreider’s consistency showed as he was named All-League and All-Area for all three seasons on varsity. As a senior, he was chosen to play in the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan All-Star Festival honoring the state’s finest basketball players and was named Honorable Mention All-State by the Associated Press. In addition to his talents on the hardwood, he excelled in soccer, scoring 28 goals and adding 29 assists during his three seasons on varsity. As a senior, he took up tennis, advancing to the state quarterfinals at the second doubles flight. He excelled in the classroom with a 3.97 grade point average and was a finalist for the prestigious MHSAA Scholar-Athlete award. Kreider accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Michigan Technological University. He capped off a successful career with style in 1999-2000, averaging 15.5 points a game as a senior. He was named First Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and voted the team’s Most Valuable Player. He also set an NCAA Division II record for free-throw shooting that season, hitting 84 of 91 for a .923 percentage.
