1994-1995 Boys Basketball

The 1994-1995 DeWitt Boys Basketball team won more games than any other team in program history, finishing the year 26-1 with its only loss coming in the Class B semi-finals. With three starters back from a team that brought home a Class B District Championship in 1994 joining forces with an undefeated junior varsity squad, Coach Jim Lutzke’s team was confident and ready for a breakthrough season. DeWitt’s high-powered offense and suffocating full court defense rolled through the Ingham County League undefeated, bringing home the conference championship. The Panthers averaged an impressive 73.1 points per game, while winning by an average of 20 points. Balanced scoring, unselfish play, and outstanding team chemistry fostered an unbeatable culture on this team. After completing the school’s first-ever undefeated regular season, Lutzke’s team knocked off a talented Lansing Waverly squad to secure another Class B District crown. With hard fought victories over Saginaw Nouvel Catholic (77-69 in overtime) and North Branch (67-53), DeWitt won the school’s first regional championship in Class B. The Panthers crushed Gwinn 77-52 in the state quarterfinal to clinch a berth in the Class B Final Four. Sadly, DeWitt’s dreams for a perfect season were cut short with a 43-40 overtime loss to East Grand Rapids at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. The 26 consecutive wins still stand as a school record. The 1994-1995 Boys Basketball team included the following members: Todd Baulch, Marvin Beland, Robert Bobeda, Ben Drayton, Tom Fabus, Chris Johnson, Jason Kreider, Jeff Krueger, Jay Larner, Casey Laughlin, Jay Leitz, D.J. Reyburn, James Schwartze, Head Coach Jim Lutzke, and assistant coaches Sam Dalman and Bill McCullen.
