Katy's Social Studies Digital Portfolio

In Social Studies this year, we studied the Eastern Hemisphere. Here are just a few of the things we learned:

We started at the beginning of the year with learning about the five themes of geography. We did a government mini unit, and then moved in to our our studies of the Eastern Hemisphere. We started with Europe. We studied European history and geography. I made a powerpoint (actually, it is a Google Presentation) about European History. Scroll down to see the Powerpoint. Then we moved to Asia. We did a big unit on China, which was really fun! We watched a movie called China Trek (or something). We "visited" a bunch of places in China and learned about the culture and scenery. We then made a Google Map all about the cities and places in China we learned about. Here is mine. It took a lot of research and time, but I learned a lot! We then moved on to Africa. We learned about the different countries, discussed the geography and how it affected the people, talked about slavery, and did research on one specific country. I worked with Mona to learn about Togo and Egypt. We created a Powerpoint (Google Presentation) about King Tut. We saw a "picture" of him. He had a huge bump on the back of his head. We jokingly called him "King Tumor," but had to stop out of fear that he would come haunt us! Scroll down to see the Powerpoint. After Africa came the Middle East. Along with this was World Religions. We talked about Jeruselum and the conflicts that happen there because of religion. I really liked the World Religions unit, because it gave me a chance to tell others about my religion.

Side Note: "Music in Austria" was a joke. It's based on the musical The Sound of Music.
