"Haceago's Gold Medal Jump"

    1. LONG MUSIC INTRO

    2. Narrator: This is a story about Tina and Haseago and Haceago's jump for the gold. Haceago is an Olympic pole vaulter. His event is about to start.

    3. Announcer: Pole vaulters to your places!

    4. Haceago: I am so nervous. My fins are sweating like crazy and this pole is way too big for me!

    5. Tina: Don't worry. You'll do fine.

    6. Narrator: Staring up at the huge pole he has to jump over, Haseago freezes at the sight of it

    7. (BUBBLES)

    8. Narrator: It's the gold medal round in the Great Barrier Reef and Haceago is about to jump.

    9. Haseago: I don't think I can do this! I might not go far enough, or I might go too far or I might not even move or I might....

    10. Announcer: (speaking over Haseago as he/she backs up to be quieter but still heard.) People have come far and wide to watch this event!

    11. Tina: Hey Haseago! Your mom's here!

    12. Haseago: WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    13. Announcer: Haseago is preparing to jump. But first, let's hear a little bit about him. Haseago is a very competitive Mexican fish from..........Mexico. He came from a small town in....Mexico where his mother had to raise 437 young baby fish. Haseago was a troubled child who always felt alone and neglected........... And at the last underwater Olympic games, Haseago actually came in tenth place. That is a record...............for him.

    14. Tina: Wow, did we really need that much information??????!!!!??!?!?!

    15. Announcer: And Haseago is up.....

    16. Haseago: I can't do this!

    17. Tina: YES, YOU CAN!!! GO!!!! YOU HAVE A TIME LIMIT!!!!

    18. Announcer: And Haseago....the troubled child from Mexico....is about to jump...............

    19. (BOING)

    20. Announcer: There he goes..........

    21. (SPLASH)

    22. Announcer: He went passed the surface!

    23. (CRICKETS)..............

    24. Announcer: He hasn't come back down!

    25. (SEAGULL SOUND?)

    26. Announcer: I think a seagull got him! This is very bad! Haseago has just been eaten by a seagull!

    27. (Screams)

    28. Announcer: Wait a second......what is that?

    29. Person in crowd: It's a bird!

    30. Another person in crowd: No, it's a plane!

    31. Tina: No, it's Haceago!!!!!!!!

    32. Announcer: I can't believe my eyes! It is Haceago!! He survived!

    33. Narrator: And sure enough it was Haceago. Though the seagull ripped off one of his fins, Haceago came down on the other side of the pole which gave him 1st place. He finally won the gold medal and the crowd went crazy.

    34. (CROWD CHEERING)...........

    35. Narrator: And they all lived happily ever after, or at least for 4 more years.

General Goals:

    • What are your immediate goals as a group, that is, what do you think needs to be done in your first week on the island?

    • What are your mid-range goals as a group, that is, what do you think needs to be done in the second through eighth weeks on the island?

    • What are your long-range goals as a group, that is, what would you like to strive for in the long-run (over eight weeks)?

Political Goals:

    • How will decisions that affect the group be made? Popular vote. We will be a republic. Who will make these decisions?

    • How will these decisions be enforced if violated?

    • How will problems be solved?

    • What other "rules for living" will you make? Why?

Economic Goals:

    • What jobs will need to be done? How will you decide who does each job?

    • How will you decide how to divide up the belonging that you have now? Who gets to "own" or "possess" them?

    • What "rules for ownership and possession" will you make for things that will be made or found in the future? Why?

    • How will possessions be divided up?

Other Goals:

    • Will you make rules for marriage and families? Why? If yes, then what will those rules be?

Landscape

    • What does your island look like?

    • What are the major features that affect your society?

Our island is a circle, half of which is surrounded by mountains and cliffs. The other half is open. Our buildings are built by the mountains house

General goals:

Immediate Goals:

    • We need to build a shelter in our first week there.

    • We need to determine food and water sources.

    • Learn to hunt

    • Learn the quickest ways around the island

    • Find things to make fire

Mid-Term Goals:

    • Explore more of the island and search for a more reinforced shelter

    • Identify poisonous things

    • Make a food shelter, away from the animals

    • Learn the three main jobs ( building, fishing/hunting, and basic medicine)

    • Find something like a cave to shelter from the worst of elements

    • Determine wood sources so we can build things and also get shade on hot days

Longterm Goals

    • Build fortress and expand camp.

    • Get rescued

Other Goals

    • Create medicine

Political Goals:

    • We will be a Republicacy

Economic Goals

    • We want to have a booming economy

This is the survival simulation that we did in groups in language arts.

Have you ever wonderd what is happening to the rain forest and what will happen to it in the future? Every second one and a half acres of the rain forest is destroyed. Experts say that the rain forest will be completly gone in fourty years. Once the rain forest covered 14% of the worlds surface area and now its down to 6%.

The reason the rainforest is disapeering is because big companys keep on cuting down the trees because of the timber value and farming and ranching operations. They use the tree’s to make wood, paper, furniture, charcoal, and other wood products to make alot of money.

One reason we should save the rain forest is for our health. The rain forest supplies alot of the worlds oxygen. Just the Amazon rain forest makes 20% of it. That means in fourty years over 20% of the worlds oxygen would be gone. It also affects are health because many medicines use rain forest plants. About 2,100 plants in the rain forest fight cancer cells.

Another reason is the animals. Almost one half of the worlds species of animals and plants live in the rain forest. If the rain forests keeps getting destroyed, then future generations won’t be able to see these unique creatures that live there. This is because there are species that live only in the rain forest and if that environment is destroyed, where will they go? They will eventally go extinct and no one in the future will see them. Experts estemate that we loose about 50,000 animal and plant species a year because of destroying the rain forests.

As you can see, there are many reasons to save the rain forest and to do that we can do alot of things. One example is to use the resources that it already has, like fruit and the medicine plants. This is why we should save the rain forest.
