Ms. Williams recently experienced a Drake concert.
Here is her story!
How long have you been a Drake fan?
I have been a Drake fan since high school. I remember when he came out with his Thank Me Later album in 2010, and I had a burned version of the CD that I listened to in my car.
What is so appealing about Drake and his music?
I think he is hilarious! If you’ve ever listened to his music, you know he tries to sneak funny lines into each of his songs. My favorite line will forever be “Got money in these jeans, so they fit me kind of snug.” It cracks me up that a serious rapper could seriously rap the word snug in his songs. I also like that he raps or sings about his feelings and world observations.
What is your favorite song by him?
It’s so hard to pick, but my no-skip is probably “All Me” with 2 Chainz and Big Sean. What a dream collaboration.
When did you go see Drake?
I saw Drake on September 23 when he extended his tour with 21 Savage to come to Charlotte.
I also saw him at Dreamville this year and before in 2018 when he toured with Migos (RIP Take Off).
How did you get ready for the concert?
I didn’t do much to get ready for the concert other than listen to more of 21 Savage and Central Cee’s music since they were touring with him. I already have a lot of Drake on my playlists! And of course, now concerts are basically fashion shows, so I had to pick a cool outfit for the show.
How was the concert experience? What was the crowd like? How is a Drake concert different from someone else's? Favorite parts?
Drake did two nights in Charlotte, and we went to the second night. He is an AMAZING performer, with so much energy and passion! He was running around the stage almost the whole time. The crowd was very excited to see him, especially since we walked out in the section we were sitting in. It was crazy to see how much security and staff he has with him at all times. I found it especially interesting that he did a house set at a DJ booth during the middle of the show to chill out the vibe a little after an intense first half of the show. I go to many different types of music concerts, and within the rap genre, I definitely think Drake’s performances are the best!
