JANUARY SPOTLIGHT ON STUDENTS
WYWLA 6th grader, Eliza Davis shared with us her Girl Scouts expereince!
Give us an overview of your Girl Scouts journey!
Through Girl Scouts I have learned responsibility and that I need friends who will support my decisions about projects and charities.
How did you get involved in Girl Scouts?
I got involved in Girl Scouts after hearing a friend in Elementary school talk about being one. Afterwards, I told my mom that I wanted to join, and she was very supportive in that as she was once also a Girl Scout. I then started in second grade as a Brownie.
What has been the most impactful thing you’ve learned with Girl Scouts?
The most impactful thing that I have learned with Girl Scouts is that you need to treat everyone with the kindness and respect that you want to be treated with. I have also learned how to respect the environment, how to make a sales pitch, overall communication, and outdoor skills like how to make a fire.
What major leadership values have you learned through girl scouts?
Some major leadership values that I have learned through Girl Scouts is helping others, being responsible, making decisions, planning ahead, problem solving, learning about budget skills and how to teach others.
How long have you been a girl scout?
I have been a Girl Scout since 2020.
How do skills you learn at girl scouts apply to WYWLA and how do the skills you learn at WYWLA apply to girl scouts?
I have learned many things at Girl Scouts that apply to WYWLA, but one of the major ones are really relationship building and time management. On the other hand, at WYWLA we have events such as Junior Achievement in a Day have taught me financial skills which apply to Girl Scouts through service project planning. The other major skill is collaboration, it is both a part of WYWLA and Girl Scouts and applies to both!
What types of service projects are you involved in?
I am involved in helping with animal shelters, participating in church charities, and making birthday boxes for people at women's shelters.
What would you tell someone who wants to join girl scouts?
I would tell someone who wants to join Girl Scouts that it is awesome! You learn a lot, there are no boys, you can earn patches, and go camping. Most events are parent free and it is girl led!
