APRIL BETTER TOGETHER
Students are not the only ones brought together through WYWLA! Two teachers bonded over their WYWLA experience. Here is their story!
I first met Ms. Williams in August 2020 when I was first starting at WYWLA! Our mutual love of K-pop was what really "sealed the deal" for our friendship! That's what gave us a big common interest and had us wanting to hang out or chat outside of school. Ms. Williams is generous, honest, a little silly, always bright, and effortlessly genuine. She's the type of friend who makes sure you never doubt how much she values you. I can always count on Ms. Williams to tell me the truth and keep me grounded, and still hype me up at the same time. We definitely appreciate each other's weirdness, and we support each other! We spend a ton of time together, which means we’ve seen each other at our best, our most exhausted, and everything in between, which I think has certainly made our friendship stronger! I like knowing that when I come into work each morning, I have a friend waiting for me in her classroom, ready to talk, vent, and listen.
-Ms. Simmons (Middle School Spanish teacher)
Ms Simmons and I met in 2020. We became friends due to common interests like music, TV shows, and pop culture. Ms. Simmons and I are kindred spirits. We match each other's energy from getting excited about new K-pop releases and the latest social media trends and even planning trips abroad. Ms. Simmons will always lend a listening ear whenever I have a problem. She and I laugh through the stress because we know things will work out for the best in the end. Teaching together makes it so easy to hang out! Even though we see each other on the weekends and during school breaks, getting to spend time together in the morning and during lunch is so nice! I appreciate that we both have the student's best interests at heart. We both believe that every OWL is capable of success, and it's so nice getting to see their growth from 6th grade in my classroom to 7th and 8th graders in Spanish! I also love how Ms. Simmons works to build confidence for the 6th-grade OWLs in GLC and WISE.
