JANUARY FIRST GENERATION
How would you describe yourself as a middle student?
I am a smart, respectful, helpful, and kind person. I work hard to overcome challenges and to do well in my classes.
Did you feel added pressure /responsibility being the first in your family to attend/ graduate from college? What do you want to study in college?
I don't feel added pressure because I know it will be a great opportunity for me. Everyone around me will be proud! I want to study cosmetology and open my own business in the future.
Who makes up your support system?
My family and friends are my support system. At WYWLA, Mrs. Cornwright stands out because she challenges me and helps me along the way. She believes in me and this makes a big difference.
What major did you pursue? Why?
I want to go into the beauty industry and open up my own beauty shops. I love working on hair. I first got interested in hair when I was very young. I was given a mannequin and I loved working on it to practice styling it.
What will it mean to you and what will it mean to your family for you to earn a college degree?
It will be amazing because it will be a great opportunity that will open many doors. A college degree will allow me to be successful and happy.
When you face obstacles or challenges now, how do you overcome them?
I take breaths and ask for help from people around me like teachers, friends, or a trusted adult. No one should be above asking for help.
Why is WYWLA a great place to learn? What are some life lessons you've learned at WYWLA that have helped you succeed?
