Better Together is a feature that showcases students who make each better through leadership practices.
Mya Goldberg, Georgia Martin, and Emily Swanson make each other better. Here is their story!
All the way back in 4th grade Emily and I were put in the same class. We immediately bonded because we really didn’t know anyone else in the class and we happened to have mutual friends. We both decided to attend Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy together for middle school. I was super excited for both Georgia and I to have both gotten in. Both of us went into the school very excited and this is where we met Mya. I did not know Georgia and Emily prior to starting here at WYWLA in 6th grade, but we met then and were kind of acquaintances until we drifted apart during quarantine. At the beginning of 8th grade at a Halloween party, we reconnected. From then on we clicked instantly and became very close friends. We’re very similar people who enjoy the same things, and we can bond over our shared interests and we kind of bounce off each other’s energy. The three of us live super close to each other and we hang out a lot and see each other all the time. We make each other better by encouraging each other to be better people. We all have our moments where we don’t show our best selves, but being with each other encourages us to strive to be our best selves. We all view our friendship with each other in a very positive light and we encourage each other to continue that. It’s really great to have such a reliable support system that is always there to encourage each other through whatever difficulties we might be facing, whether it be inside or outside of school.
